What isa nicotine pouch?
A nicotine pouch is a small white pouch that sits between the upper lip and the gum. It contains plant-based cellulose fibres, nicotine, food-grade flavourings, sweeteners, and pH stabilisers, but no tobacco of any kind. Nicotine is released through the lining of the mouth over a period of roughly thirty minutes to a few hours, depending on the strength of the pouch and the preference of the user. The category produces no smoke, no vapour, no spitting, and no staining of the teeth or gums, which is one reason for its growth outside the original Scandinavian market. Swidi is not a smoking-cessation medicine. The pouches contain nicotine, which is addictive, and are intended only for adults who already use nicotine.
HOW TO USE
Five steps. About thirty minutes.
Once you've used a pouch, you'll never need to think about how. Here's the first time.
STEP 1
Open the can.
Twist the lid. Inside, you'll find your pouches plus a small storage compartment in the lid for used ones. Avant cans contain 20 pouches; ViD cans contain 21.
STEP 2
Place the pouch.
Place a single pouch between your upper lip and gum. Most users find the left or right side more comfortable than the center.
STEP 3
Settle in.
You'll feel a mild tingling within the first minute as the flavor releases and the nicotine begins to absorb. This is normal.
STEP 4
Use as long as you want.
Most Swidi users keep a pouch in place for 30 minutes to a few hours, depending on personal preference.
STEP 5
Dispose responsibly.
Place the used pouch in the lid compartment, or in a normal waste bin. Never flush, never litter.

COMPARISON
Different fromeverything else.
The white nicotine pouch sits in its own product category. It is not a cigarette, not an electronic cigarette, not a heated tobacco product, and not traditional snus. The differences matter for users making a switch from any of these alternatives, and they also matter for retailers and regulators classifying the product correctly.
Cigarettes
COMPARED TO POUCHES
No smoke, no vapour, and no combustion. Use rules still depend on local law and venue policy.
Vapes / E-cigarettes
COMPARED TO POUCHES
No vapor, no battery, no liquid. E-cigarettes are also currently prohibited in our distribution markets.
Traditional snus
COMPARED TO POUCHES
No tobacco. The pouch is white, not brown, and produces no staining.
Heated tobacco
COMPARED TO POUCHES
No tobacco at all, and no device required.

WHAT RESEARCH SAYS
What we can saywith confidence.
The white nicotine pouch is a recent product category and the body of independent research is still developing. The summary below draws on three significant pieces of work published in 2024 and 2025: a U.S. Food and Drug Administration authorisation decision, a policy statement by the American Heart Association, and a Yale-affiliated cardiovascular research review. None of these sources concludes that nicotine pouches are safe. What they collectively establish is more specific.
FINDING 1
FDA authorisation: lower toxicants than smoked tobacco.
On 16 January 2025, the FDA authorised twenty nicotine pouch products (the ZYN range from Swedish Match) under its Premarket Tobacco Product Application pathway, the first nicotine pouches ever to receive a marketing order from the agency. The authorisation explicitly noted that the products contain significantly lower levels of harmful and potentially harmful constituents than cigarettes, and that real-world evidence indicated a meaningful share of adult cigarette smokers had switched completely to pouches during the study period. The FDA was careful to state that authorisation is not approval, and not a safety endorsement.

FINDING 2
American Heart Association: pouches are not risk-free.
In December 2024 the American Heart Association published a policy statement in its flagship journal Circulation on the cardiovascular implications of smokeless oral nicotine products including white pouches. The statement acknowledged that pouches deliver fewer toxicants than combustible cigarettes, but cautioned that nicotine itself raises heart rate and blood pressure, that high-strength pouches deliver more nicotine than a typical cigarette, and that long-term cardiovascular data on this specific product category does not yet exist. The AHA recommended that pouches not be marketed as a wellness product, and that adults already using nicotine consult a clinician if they have any cardiovascular condition.

FINDING 3
Yale review: high-strength pouches raise cardiovascular markers.
A 2025 review published in Frontiers in Public Health by cardiologists at Yale New Haven Health summarised the existing clinical data on nicotine pouches and cardiovascular outcomes. The review highlighted a 2024 controlled clinical trial in which the highest-strength nicotine pouches caused dose-dependent increases in heart rate and arterial stiffness after a single use. The review concluded that pouches deliver real nicotine with real cardiovascular effects, that the very highest strengths are particularly concerning, and that adults with any pre-existing cardiovascular condition should approach pouches with the same caution they would apply to other nicotine products.

FINDING 4
Consensus: for adults already using nicotine, not for new users.
Across the FDA authorisation, the AHA policy statement, and the Yale review, the position on appropriate use is consistent. White nicotine pouches are intended for adults who already use nicotine and who are willing to switch from a more harmful product, such as combustible cigarettes, to a less harmful one. Pouches are not a medical product. They are not authorised as a smoking-cessation aid. They should not be used by people who do not currently use nicotine, by anyone under 18 (or under 21 in jurisdictions where that is the legal threshold), by pregnant or nursing women, or by people with cardiovascular disease without consulting a clinician. The FDA authorisation applies only to the specific ZYN nicotine pouch products granted marketing orders on 16 January 2025; it is not approval, not a safety endorsement, and does not extend to Swidi AB or to the Kurbits Avant and ViD products it distributes. Swidi AB follows the same position and markets the products on that basis only.
